Rivi 125:
Changing templates
Sinilind~fiwiki, when you change templates try to make them better not worse. You made so with Template:Ristikanzu that default values can not be seen now and many articles about persons now miss their photos and description. If you don't update the template so that this information could be seen again then old template will be restored again. --Onegaborg (pagize) 28. oraskuuta 2018 kello 22.45 (MSK)

:Onegaborg, I take your point, but I feel that you should have directed that comment at the person who made that template worse by replacing it with a version that was not working correctly. What I did was I restored the Ristikanzu template to an earlier version that, while including only a photo and some basic information, was at least working as intended. (See for example Hans Christian Andersen as it is now). Template:Ristikanzu and its automated data-fetching were not working as intended at all: parts of the infobox were not in Karelian, the infobox showed an error message saying that the lua script was broken, and the automated data-fetching resulted in, for example, H. C. Andersen’s birth and death dates having no less than 15 automated references and the sources section being filled with irrevelevant sources. This also led to all kinds of error categories being added to the page because the script was not working correctly. All in all, the Ristikanzu infobox was broken and the whole article became very messy. It seemed unfinished, but the author had neither fixed it nor updated it since last autumn. In my opinion, this made the Karelian wikipedia worse.

:The reason why those values cannot be seen now, after my reversal to the older template, is that the user who created the new automated template added the Ristikanzu template to several articles and removed the manually-inserted values, as his version of the template would have fetched them automatically. This would have been all well and good, had it only worked. To make the data visible again with the simpler template, each article that the user changed in favour of his new template would have to be reverted in turn, like I did with the article on H. C. Andersen.

:I didn’t start reverting other articles yet because I thought it would be better if I wrote about it on the Talk page first, and asked other users how we should proceed with the broken infoboxes. However, I didn’t have the time to do it earlier today. In hindsight, I admit that I shouldn't have restored the old infobox yet, but instead I should have started a discussion on this page or the template’s page about how to fix the current one. I also remember our earlier conversation about not making changes before they’re discussed. If you like, you can restore the old template and revert the changes that I did during the past 24 hours to a couple of articles, and we can then start a discussion about fixing the broken, automated infobox. I’m sure we are both only aiming at making the Karelian wikipedia better.
